Conference on intensifying competition to view
Faced with lagging productivity in Canada, could the answer lie in competition? To answer this question, the Walter Group hosted a conference entitled “Intensifying competition: the only option for reversing Canada’s quiet decline”, held on June 19.
Mr. Robert Gagné, Director of the Centre for Productivity and Prosperity Walter J. Somers Foundation (“CPP”), presented his conclusions that competition in Canada is simply not sufficient to generate the incentives needed to stimulate business competitiveness, and outlined his recommendations to the government to reverse this trend in order to preserve Canadians’ standard of living. These comments stimulated a great deal of interest among the audience in attendance.
The video recording of Mr. Gagné’s presentation (in French) is available here.
The full study is published on the CPP website. For additional insight, it is also possible to consult the nationwide survey conducted on behalf of the CPP, which reveals that Canadians do not share their governments’ distrust of competition.
